Local Area Information

Transport: The region is served by Coolangatta Domestic Airport as well as Brisbane's International Airport.  A rail link from Brisbane to the Gold Coast was opened in February 1996, while the Pacific Motorway links the two cities.

Railway Station:  Coomera Railway Station is approximately 1 km from the College, in Foxwell Road, via the Motorway overpass at Days Road.

Airports:  Fresh, clean and inviting, Brisbane offers visitors the best of both worlds—a modern, dynamic and sophisticated city and the gateway to South-East Queensland's most spectacular natural attractions.  Brisbane is a major hub for international air services providing regular links for travellers from the USA, New Zealand, Asian and European ports. Brisbane Airport is the largest airport in land area of all Australian airports.  If you like sun, surf and sand, unpolluted air and a relaxed lifestyle, then you'll love the Gold Coast!  Gold Coast Airport is located in Coolangatta and services domestic flights and international flights from New Zealand.  The distance from the Gold Coast Airport to Coomera is approximately 40kms.  Other International flights arrive in Brisbane at the International Terminal, which is approximately 80kms from the Gold Coast.   Shuttle Buses are available to the heart of the Gold Coast from both airports, with light aircraft and helicopters available for rental.  There is a direct rail link from Brisbane Airport to the Gold Coast, as well as bus services and motor vehicle rental.

Coomera 

With a current population of around 10,000, Coomera has been planned as a major 21st Century urban community with a population forecast to rise to 120,000 by around 2025.  Plans for Coomera are focused on achieving the principles of transit-orientated development.  For example, the Town Centre (approximately 50 hectares adjacent to Dreamworld) will be centred on the Coomera railway station.

In the short to medium term, Coomera will offer a wide range of business opportunities, a variety of housing styles, public transport, local employment, education facilities and centres that provide a wide selection of retail, community and recreational opportunities.

Coomera is 54 km south of Brisbane, 20 km north of Surfers Paradise on the Pacific Highway and is part of the Gold Coast. The  M1 Motorway and the Busways into Brisbane along the Southeast Freeway make living near the corridor an ideal compromise choice for many thousands of families.  Suburbs like Ormeau, Pimpama, Coomera and Oxenford are the fastest growing suburbs of Gold Coast City, as they provide easy access in both directions.  Coomera is home to world-class amusement parks, the Gold Coast's prospering marine industry, as well as being in close proximity to the growing movie industry.

The Gold Coast Marine Precinct is set to become the marine industry hub of the southern hemisphere.  Some 45ha is already developed with 205ha earmarked for further marine industries.  The $30 million Gold Coast City Marina development already has berths for 30 super yachts, 56 marine factories, 100 hardstand areas, and Australia's only 150 tonne boatlift.

Medical: Medical facilities are available in Upper Coomera and Oxenford and Southport, only 15 mins south of Coomera via the M1 Motorway, has over 300 medical and health-related organisations including the Gold Coast Hospital, Allamanda Private Hospital and emergency services.  Major multi-million dollar medical complexes and specialist facilities have been recently constructed or are underway.

Coomera & Oxenford Region Real Estate: Coomera, Oxenford, Helensvale, Monterey Keys, Hope Island, Oyster Cove, Pimpama and Ormeau are suburbs situated in the Northern Gold Coast Growth Corridor and are well-serviced by Real Estate Agents and there are a number of residential developments underway in the area, many of which are waterfront developments such as Coomera Waters, Oyster Cove, Hope Island Resort, River Links and Regatta Waters.  Prices vary from low cost, low density units, average family homes, rural acreage, waterfront land to million dollar waterfront mansions.

Accommodation: Coomera has a motel handy to the College, and hotel, motel and resort accommodation is available at Hope Island, Sanctuary Cove and Santa Barbara.  Rental accommodation is available in medium density housing units as well as housing estates.

Shopping, Clubs, Taverns, etc:  Runaway Bay Shopping Village with speciality shops and Harbour Town Shopping Centre, 25 hectares of Shopping Outlets at Biggera Waters, are approximately 15 minutes from Coomera on the Oxenford-Southport (Hope Island) Road.  Oxenford Shopping Centre and Post Office are 5 minutes from Coomera.  Sanctuary Cove Marine Village Boutique Shops and Restaurants—a waterfront Marine Village with art galleries, fashion boutiques, gift stores, free weekend entertainmentand an on-site Cinema, is approximately 10 minutes from Coomera. Helensvale Shopping Centre, is also approximately 10 minutes from Coomera.  Taverns, hotels, clubs, restaurants and cafes offering a wide array of cuisines such as Asian, European, contemporary Australian and seafood menus are located in close proximity to the Shopping Centres.

Theme Parks:  Dreamworld is located at Exit 54 on the Motorway at Coomera. (Use the same exit for the College.) The park is open every day (except Christmas Day) from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.  Admission is charged.  Warner Bros Movie World is located on the Pacific Highway at Oxenford, 20 minutes from Surfers Paradise.  Movie World opens daily 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.  Admission is charged.  Wet 'n' Wild Water Park set on eight hectares of sub-tropical gardens next to Warner Bros. Movie World on the Pacific Highway at Oxenford, is open all year.  Admission is charged. At Le Mans Kart Racing Complex at Coomera, admission is free (pay for kart hire).

Universities   Bond University, with 2,000 full fee paying students, is set on 212 ha in Cottesloe Drive, Robina and is Australia's first 'private' university.  Facilities include shops, tavern, sports stadium, gym, tennis and squash courts and a heated pool.  It is 30 minutes drive from Coomera to Robina on the M1.  Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus, situated at Southport, has over 8,000 students and 450 staff.  More than $100 million has been invested in facilities.  I

Sporting Facilities:  In Coomera and surrounding areas of Hope Island, Oxenford, Pimpama and Ormeau, sporting facilities abound, including golf courses, indoor swimming, rowing and water sports on the Coomera River, football fields catering to all codes of football, cricket grounds, tennis courts, kart racing, as well as a huge Sporting Complex at Runaway Bay .
